Of Quebec’s many active and planned critical mineral operations, its graphite sector could be the first to establish a complete mine-to-battery-material supply chain in the province. Nouveau Monde Graphite (NYSE: NMG, TSX: NOU) expects its Matawinie mine and concentrator to begin production in 2028 and its Bécancour processing plant to become operational in 2029, pending a final investment decision later this year. Matawinie, now under construction, was referred to Ottawa’s Major Projects Office for fast-tracking last November. Other graphite projects in Quebec are also advancing toward production – such as Focus’ Lac Knife (TSXV: FMS; US-OTC: FCSMF) and Lomiko Metals’ (TSXV: LMR; US-OTC: LMRMF) La Loutre – potentially adding to the province’s future graphite supply.
