Westmin drilling extends zone

A recent hole drilled by Westmin Resources (TSE) on the Battle zone at its Myra Falls mine property returned 10.6 metres grading 0.5 grams gold and 10.2 grams silver per tonne, plus 1.3% copper, 0.07% lead, and 16.7% zinc (from 321.6 to 332.2 metres).

The company’s exploration program is focused on testing several recent discoveries where grades are considerably higher than reserves currently being mined. The company has operated a polymetallic mine at Myra Falls near Campbell River, B.C., for over 25 years.

Westmin said its latest hole is encouraging because it suggests the Battle zone is again thickening to the south after thinning for the last few holes. The latest hole also returned a 5.6-metre interval (from 348.3-353.9 metres) which is visually estimated to grade 3% copper and 18% zinc. It is not yet known if this deeper ore represents a faulted portion of the Battle zone, or a new zone.

Westmin also noted that the H-W 18 level ramp being driven to reach the Gap and Battle zones is within 250 metres of the Battle zone and should be into the ore before year-end.

A total of four diamond drills are working in the Gap-Battle area.
