After graduating from McGill University in 1957 with a degree in Mining Engineering, he worked as a miner, mill operator and exploration engineer. Later he held various jobs in engineering, supervision and management from New Brunswick to British Columbia. He also worked with the federal government from 1972-74 as Administrator of Mining in the Yukon and Northwest Territories.
He first joined International Minerals as production manager in 1974, left two years later, but returned in 1981 as General Manager, Potash Expansion. Since 1985 he has been vice-president and general manager, IMC Fertilizer Group Inc. and president and CEO, IMC Canada with two mines and plants under his wing with capacity of 4.2 million tons of potash annually.
“I hope we still have enough young people in our society who want to get out to find, mine and process minerals, deriving the satisfaction that comes with being part of a group who generate value and much needed economic prosperity from what would otherwise be valueless rock,” he tells The Northern Miner.
