Monk ramp hits wide gold zone

A 300-ft. ramp being driven into the B zone on Monk Gold and Resources’ (ASE) property near Wawa, Ont., has hit a wider-than-expected vertical shear grading up to 0.28 oz. gold per ton.

Quartz veins cutting across the sheared, silicified tuff have returned grades of up to 1 oz. gold, the company says.

The mineralized zone, which appears to be at least 20 ft. wide, was previously encountered by drilling. Hole K1 returned a 1.6-ft. interval grading 0.89 oz. gold at a vertical depth of about 100 ft.

Monk says it would like to examine the extent of the gold zone by drifting out to the east and west toward two previous drill intersections. The company says several majors have looked at the zone and discussed potential property options.

The 65-claim property, which straddles Rabazo and Naveau twps., is close to Hemlo Gold Mines’ (TSE) Algoma Central Railway (ACR) lands. Hemlo, which is prospecting along a major shear zone, lists the ACR ground as one of five exploration highlights in a portfolio of about 60 grassroots projects.
