Opus One Gold (TSXV: OOR) is planning to drill up to 14,000 metres at its Noyell gold project south of Matagami in Quebec as it tries to grow Zone 1 into a million-ounce deposit.
The company has traced Zone 1, about 745 km by road north from Montreal, from surface to about the 500-metre level and says it remains open east, west and at depth. Last year’s program also delivered an unexpected shallow hit, with two holes cutting about 15 metres true width grading roughly 5 grams gold per tonne from surface.
“Zone 1 is still open in three dimensions,” CEO Louis Morin told The Northern Miner early this month during the PDAC event in Toronto. “We’re drilling 100 metres deeper than before.”
Opus One controls 10 km of strike on the prospective Casa Berardi and Douay-Cameron corridors and is targeting an orogenic deposit of more than 1 million oz. gold. Preliminary work also points to free gold and a biogeochemical survey has outlined additional targets over several kilometres.
