This short course will provide the participant with basic fundamental physical volcanology skills including understanding eruptive processes, fragmentation processes and transport and depositional processes.
Short Course # 4
View from the Fringe — Far Field Alteration Around Ore Deposits
Saturday, January 27 through Sunday, January 28
This course will examine the fringes of ore deposits in a range of environments including sedimentary rock hosted ore deposits (SEDEX, Sedimentary Cu, Carlin Au), volcanic rock hosted (VMS), and intrusion hosted and centered (porphyry, skarn and cordilleran base metal deposits). This MDRU hosted course is aimed at government, academic and student geologists.

NI 43-101 Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects

NI 43-101 will review what can be learned from Canadian mining industry disclosure and filing practices in 2006. This course is free to attend.
Short Course # 6
Kimberlite Geology, Basics, Advances & Economics
Friday, February 2
This one-day course will start with an introductory overview of the nature of kimberlite, including a review of mineralogical and textural classification. This will be illustrated with examples from around the world.

Field Trip # 1 Whistler Ski Vacation (with geology)
Thursday, February 1 through Sunday, February 4
Why travel all the way to Vancouver without visiting one of the greatest ski resorts in the world? This year, Mineral Exploration Roundup has taken the hassle out of planning your post-conference ski getaway. This vacation includes transportation to and from Whistler, a three-day ski pass, and Thursday night’s dinner. Hotel and ski rentals are not included but a discounted rate has been arranged.
Field Trip # 2 Highland Valley Copper Mine and the New Afton Copper-Gold Development Project
Friday, February 2 through Saturday, February 3
Highland Valley has been operating for over 20 years and is the largest copper mine in Canada and one of the largest copper mining/concentrating operations in the world. The New Afton project has been identified as one of the provinces largest advanced exploration projects. The trip includes transportation, accommodation and dinner as well as guided tours through the mines.
Field Trip # 3 Vancouver Geology and Local Interest
Sunday, January 28
This tour will visit ALS Chemex Laboratory, the Museum of Anthropology and a guided tour by Peter Mustard and Cindy Hanson on the geology of Vancouver’s Building and Monuments. Transportation, admission to the museum and Peter and Cindys book are included in this trip.
