Diamond drilling by Rubicon Minerals (RMX-V) has intersected massive sulphide mineralization at the Seal Bay property in northeastern Newfoundland. Two thousand metres were drilled in a 1-km-long-by-700-metre-wide area previously drilled by Falconbridge (FL-T).
Results included 89.1 metres of 0.8% zinc and 0.16 gram gold per tonne in hole 14; 9 metres of 0.75% copper in hole 13; and 32 metres of 0.5% zinc in hole 15. Results from 16 widely spaced holes drilled by Falco included 70 metres of 0.5% zinc and 18.3 metres of 0.7% copper.
About 3.5 km to the southeast, two grab samples from a poorly exposed and oxidized outcrop averaged 1.03% zinc, 0.3% lead, 41.7 grams silver and 1.28 grams gold. Mineralization is associated with a contact zone between mafic volcanic rocks and porphyritic rhyolites.
Rubicon can earn a 65% interest in the property from Falco by spending $700,000 on exploration; to date, $450,000 has been spent.
Elsewhere in Newfoundland, drilling at the West Cleary property has intersected two alteration zones containing low values of unspecified metals.
Rubicon owns a 51% interest in the property, with the remainder held by Falconbridge.
