Ontario, natives reach mineral development deal

A major obstacle that discouraged mineral development on Ontario’s native reserves has been overcome.

An agreement between the Ontario government and the Eabametoong First Nation will repeal provisions of the 1924 Indian Lands Agreement, which entitled the province to a 50% share of mineral revenues earned from reserve land.

The agreement is intended to foster economic development on the First Nation.
