Five research and development projects will be the first to receive funding under the Ontario Mineral Exploration Technologies (OMET) program.
The $8-million program is designed to assist projects that provide solutions to technical problems facing the exploration industry — problems such as seeing through thick cover and working in areas where infrastructure clutters prospective properties.
Through OMET, Quantec will be demonstrating a program called 3-D QUEST (quantified exploration solutions technology). The program provides earth imaging by integrating geoscience data into a single, three-dimensional model. Targets are tested by the Titan 24 system, an electrical earth-imaging system which can reduce noise levels.
Models generated can be viewed in Mirarco’s 3-D “virtual reality laboratory” in Sudbury. The lab is powered by GOCAD, an oil industry software package for 3-D modelling.
