OBITUARY Hector Monette

Hector Monette, noted mining engineer, died recently in Quebec. He was 78. Born in Montreal, Monette graduated from the Military College of Kingston in 1934 and from McGill University in 1936. Upon graduation he worked as general superintendent for Pickel Crow Mines until 1952. Then he served as a manager at Quebec Copper (1952-57), East Sullivan Mines (1957-60) and St. Lawrence Columbium (1960-63).

In 1963, Monette joined the department of mining and metallurgy at Universite Laval in Quebec City. He was a professor of mining engineering and director of the department.
