Noranda ups stake in Brenda to 79.1%

Noranda Minerals, a division of Noranda (TSE), has purchased 346,714 common shares of Brenda Mines (TSE) from Nippon Mining of Japan, increasing its interest in the junior to 79.1% or 3.7 million shares.

Nippon Mining acquired its Brenda shares in 1966 and purchased virtually all the copper concentrate produced at the Brenda mine near Kelowna, B.C., before the mine shut down in 1990.

Noranda says it purchased the Brenda shares for investment purposes.
