NEWS ROUNDUP — Cominco improves bottom line

A $65-million profit was reported by Cominco (TSE) for the first nine months of this year, a dramatic improvement from the $25-million loss for the comparable 1991 period.

The profit for the third quarter was $51.8 million, compared with a loss of $22.1 million for the same quarter last year. However, this year’s third-quarter results include an after-tax gain of $39.1 million from the sale of the company’s 46.3% interest in Aberfoyle. Also included is an after-tax gain of $2.6 million from the sale by Cominco Resources International (TSE) of a 32.5% interest in the Quebrada Blanca copper project in Chile to Teck (TSE).
