The Canadian Maple Leaf gold coin outsold the American Eagle gold coin in 1987 and could do the same again in 1988. Sales of the Maple Leaf coin topped 1.4 million oz gold in 1987 to the Eagle’s 1.2 million oz. The Far East is reported to be a booming market for gold- related items such as coins.

Falconbridge Ltd.’s Debbie Pearce has been elected to the 20-member board of directors of the American Copper Council. Re-elected to the board was Noranda Inc.’s John Hampton. The Council, founded in 1973, has 135 member companies.
