Over 125 people turned up to meet the miners” at a recent reception held by the Chamber of Mineral Resources of Nova Scotia (CMRNS). he reception kicked off a 2-day annual meeting and seminar, where a variety of speakers delivered their thoughts on The art of survival in the 1990s.” Seminar speakers included Gerry McConnell, president of NovaGold Resources (TSE); Robert Parsons, a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse; and Mike Chender, chairman of the Metal Economics Group.
The meeting gave the industry a chance to sell itself to the public and generate strategies for the future, said CMRNS administrator Carol MacCulloch. Exploration in the Maritimes is facing tough times, she said, and the industry would like to see more government incentives to spur investment.
The biggest challenge is to convince people we should be in their backyard,” MacCulloch said. It was a hard sell.”
Speakers at the dinner meeting Feb. 13 included Jack McIsaac, minister of the Nova Scotia Department of Mines and Energy, and Robert Ginn, president of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada.
