May I compliment your newspaper on its reporting of Canadian mining activities in Mexico. I often learn about these initiatives through an article in The Northern Miner before I hear from the companies themselves.
We are constantly learning by chance or through media reports of more and more Canadian companies working in Mexico’s mining sector. I should like to ask for your assistance in spreading the message to Canadians to let us know they are here, even if they are just at the stage of assessing opportunities. This is not because we want to start some sort of sinister surveillance or because we would presume to intrude on business the companies know very well how to handle for themselves.
It is because our responsibility is to accurately represent the interests of Canadians regarding Mexican mining policy to the Mexican authorities, to help resolve problems if we can and to build on success. We cannot do this if we do not know what are the interests, problems and successes of Canadians in Mexico.
I should be pleased to receive any information from Canadian companies at the Canadian embassy here in Mexico City.
