Lawyers to discuss Cuban legislation

Recent U.S. legal restrictions involving Canadian trade with Cuba have prompted the law firm Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt to schedule a client seminar for April 24 in Toronto.

Experts in trade law will be on hand to discuss the passing of the Helms-Burton Bill, which has forced Canadian businesses to re-assess the risks of trading with the island.

Jean Anderson of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, in Washington, D.C., will outline the new U.S. law and its effects on Canadian companies, and Stephen Marcus of Nussbaum & Wald, also of Washington, will address the practical steps Canadian companies might take to minimize the law’s impact on them.

Ronald Atkey, Peter Glossop and Timothy Kennish of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt will also speak at the seminar, to be held at the firm’s head office at 1 First Canadian Place.
