GSC colloquium will shed light on Canadian types of mineral deposits

The next Minerals Colloquium of the Geological Survey of Canada, scheduled for Jan. 22-24, 1996, will focus on current concepts of Canadian mineral deposit types.

The theme is expounded in the compendium volume, Geology of Canadian Mineral Deposit Types.

The event will be held at the Ottawa Congress Centre, where presentations will be divided into four groups: mafic-ultramafic associations; massive sulphides; stratabound and vein deposits; and porphyry systems.

The A.H. Lang Lecture will be delivered by Richard Sillitoe, who will provide an overview of porphyry and related epithermal systems.

In addition, Lew Green will speak on a century of gold mining in the Yukon.

A short course on borehole geophysics will follow the colloquium, and a poster session will be featured.

The Colloquium highlights the results of the GSC’s mineral program, and promotes communication between scientists and industry. For more information, call (613) 992-1600. E-mail: colloq96@gsc.emr.ca.
