GeoNova updates Desjardins resource

Montreal-based GeoNova Explorations (GNE-M) has updated the gold resource estimate for the Discovery zone of its Desjardins property, 45 km northwest of Lebel-sur-Quevillon, Que.

The zone is now estimated to contain 1.6 million tonnes grading 5.1 grams gold per tonne (or 1.7 million tons at 0.149 oz.), with an average horizontal width of 5.4 metres. The new resource includes 1 million tonnes at 6.28 grams gold per tonne (1.1 million tons at 0.183 oz.), with a horizontal width of 3.6 metres.

The Discovery zone has been traced to depths of more than 600 metres over a 400-metre strike length, and remains open at depth and to the west.

GeoNova will now begin a 10,000-12,000-metre drill program to define the zone between surface and a depth of 300 metres and to test the continuity of the western extension of the zone between depths of 400 and 600 metres. The drilling is intended to confirm the presence of the zone at a depth of 700 metres, as well as the existence of a smaller mineralized structure to the east.

Under an agreement with Homestake Canada, a subsidiary of Homestake Mining (HM-N), GeoNova has acquired a 51% interest in the Desjardins project. In the event Homestake decides not to participate further, GeoNova can increase this to 100%.

GeoNova has two other gold prospects in the Lebel-sur-Quevillon camp, namely Borduas-Martel and Berthiaume.
