“In Sudbury we visited Inco, a company that has made great progress in rehabilitation in recent years. They have a very simple but effective program for returning injured workers to employment as quickly as possible. I spoke with many of the workers in the program. They were all very pleased to have a meaningful job to go to, despite their injuries. I spoke with the manager, who told me that the productivity of the workers in the rehabilitation program was actually higher than that of other workers. Would you believe that 10% of Inco’s workforce in Sudbury is injured workers? A few years back I would not have believed it possible. And while I am not at liberty to say how much the company is saving as a result of its program, it is impressive.”

From remarks by Odoardo Di Santo, chairman, Ontario Workers’ Compensation Board, to the annual conference of the Employers’ Council on Workers’ Compensation.
