DIAMOND PAGE — Rovic may be resuscitated

Botswana Diamondfields (BWO-V) is considering resuming production at its idle Rovic diamond mine in Botswana following an accident last year, which killed 20 workers.

The company says mining of the remaining kimberlite in the No. 3 pipe is feasible provided an overhead cable system is used. The pipe is accessible from the open pit.

Company officials note that this method has been used successfully at the Inyala mine in Zimbabwe and estimate that 600,000 tonnes grading 35 carats per 100 tonnes can be extracted.

The feasibility of resuming production in the underground portion will be considered at a later date.
