DIAMOND NEWS ROUNDUP — Shore, Rio Nevada pull diamonds

Junior Shore Gold (SGF-A) has recovered diamonds from two newly discovered kimberlite bodies at its 75%-owned Fort la Corne project, 80 km east of Prince Albert, Sask.

This past fall, Shore tested prospective geophysical targets by means of a 5-hole program of small-diameter drilling. Two of the holes (1 and 5) pulled 245 metres of kimberlite from a target measuring 500 metres in diameter. A 400-kg sample from the first hole yielded five microdiamonds.

Core from the second hole has not yet been submitted for processing.

A further 1.5 km to the west, holes 2, 3 and 4 intersected a uniform sequence of kimberlite and kimberlitic sediments. The holes were widely spaced over an area measuring 1,300 by 600 metres. Shore and partner Rio Nevada Mines (RN-A), which holds the other 25% interest in the project, believe the holes have intersected one continuous body. The interpretation of ground geophysics suggests the kimberlite sequence covers an area measuring 2,000 by 1,500 metres. It lies 85 metres below surface.

With only half the samples processed to date, holes 2, 3 and 4 have returned 63 microdiamonds and 4 macros from 164 kg of drill core. (A macro is defined as exceeding 0.5 mm in one dimension.) The largest stone recovered is a 1-mm octahedron.

The diamonds were recovered from a visually distinct kimberlite unit averaging 35 metres in thickness. The partners are awaiting results for 60 metres of kimberlitic material situated above and below this unit.

Shore intends, through follow-up drilling, to continue testing both kimberlite bodies.
