Conference to focus on latest exploration technology

A conference on geophysical and geochemical exploration technology will be held from Sept. 14 to 18 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Entitled “Exploration ’97: The Fourth Decennial Conference on Mineral Exploration,” the conference will evaluate advances made over the past decade and offer a glimpse into projects at the research and development stage.

Workshops will cover various aspects of the exploration sector, including: geochemistry in tropical and sub-tropical terrain; mining and groundwater geophysics; geographical information systems and exploration datasets; borehole geophysics; airborne geophysics; applications for gamma-ray spectrometry; and software applications.

The keynote technical session, which will be chaired by Ken Witherly, chief geophysicist for BHP Copper, is entitled “Discovery Beyond 2000: Can Exploration Technology Meet the Challenge?”

Other technical sessions, which will examine the integration of geological, geophysical and geochemical information, include: mineral exploration technology; integrated exploration information management; exploration geochemistry; seismic exploration methods; electrical and electro magnetic methods; mine site exploration and ore delineation; radio metric and remote sensing; regional geophysics and geochemistry; mapping and monitoring; and case histories.

The technical sessions comprise 80 papers from 150 international authors.
