Coeur d’Alene wins $50,000

Idaho-based Coeur d’Alene Mines recently won the first Du Pont/Conoco Environmental Leadership Award for environmental excellence in the U.S. metals mining industry.

This year seven companies were nominated for the award, which carries a $50,000 grant. The money will be distributed among the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, College of Environmental Sciences; the University of Nevada, Mackay School of Mines and the Nature Conservancy’s Silver Creek project in Idaho.

Since the turn of the century, Du Pont Conoco Mining Services has been a supplier of sodium cyanide and lubricants — two products essential to the mining of gold and other metals.
