Toronto-listed Aur Resources has begun exploring six properties in northwestern Manitoba. The program is being funded by associated junior companies Thunderwood Resources (TSE) and Consolidated Abitibi Resources (ME).
The properties, situated near Lynn and Kississing Lakes, form part of a larger, 42-property package which Aur purchased from Granges (TSE) in July 1995. Thunderwood and Consolidated Abitibi are earning a 30% interest by providing $795,000 for exploration.
Most of the work will focus on the Lynn Lake area, where Aur plans surface and down-hole geophysical surveys, followed by drilling, on the Eldon Lake and Fox Lake properties.
At Eldon Lake, which covers a 20-km strike length of the Lynn Lake volcanic belt, Aur plans to drill three known deposits to test possible extensions of the mineralization.
The Francis Lake deposit has a 310,000-tonne resource grading 7.2% zinc and 25 grams silver per tonne, with copper, lead and gold credits. It has been delineated with only 17 holes, and Aur plans 3,085 metres of drilling in nine more holes.
The Nicoba deposit has a resource estimate of 180,000 tonnes with 5.5% zinc, plus copper, silver and gold credits. Aur plans to drill five holes (1,150 metres).
The deposit at Eldon Lake has been subjected to 15 drill holes, and the preliminary resource estimate stands at 508,000 tonnes grading 3.1% zinc and 0.9% copper. An additional 1,535 metres will be drilled this winter in six holes.
The Fox Lake property surrounds the Fox copper-zinc mine, which Sherritt (TSE) put into production in 1970 and closed in 1985. Aur plans to drill 2,295 metres on an extension of the Fox mine horizon, near a previous drill hole which intersected 2.6 metres grading 7.4% zinc and 0.7% copper.
Aur will also be flying electromagnetic (EM) and magnetic surveys on the Eldon, Fox and Counsell Lake properties, beginning in April, and plans to drill 3,800 metres in a second phase of exploration.
In addition, the company will be working in the Kississing Lake area, northeast of Flin Flon, Man., near the former-producing Sherridon copper-zinc deposit. The area has tightly folded and strongly metamorphosed rocks similar to Sherridon’s host rocks.
The initial program will include 353 km of airborne, EM and magnetic surveying, plus ground magnetics and induced polarization.
Aur plans a second phase of work later in the year, which will include borehole geophysics, geological mapping and drilling.
