Northern Orion Explorations (NNO-T) has reported encouraging results from the first three holes drilled on the Agua Rica copper-gold project in Argentina.
The drilling, which is focusing on the Mi Vida and Trampeadero areas, is part of a 50,000-metre drill program aimed at expanding the deposit.
By the end of 1997, Northern Orion and its joint-venture partner, BHP Minerals, expect to complete a US$45-million work program aimed at bringing the project to final feasibility.
BHP holds a 70% interest in the project, with Northern Orion holding the remainder. The junior is a 54%-held subsidiary of Miramar Mining (MAE-T).
Hole AR-4 returned 306 metres (from 208 to 514 metres) grading 0.53% copper, 0.2 gram gold and 12 grams silver per tonne, plus 0.041% molybdenum; hole AR-46 hit 482 metres (from 6 to 488 metres) of 0.53% copper, 0.28 gram gold, 9 grams silver and 0.022% moly; and hole AR-47 hit 382 metres (from 110 to 492 metres) of 0.58% copper, 0.1 gram gold, 4 grams silver and 0.092% moly.
Four holes drilled to test the Morro Alumbrera area did not intersect economic intercepts. However, additional drilling will attempt to evaluate other portions of this anomaly.
Northern Orion has numerous other mineral projects in Argentina, most of which are situated near the border with Chile.
