Mines ministers to meet in Halifax

Mines and energy ministers from across Canada will meet in Halifax, Sept. 22-27, for the 48th annual Mines Ministers’ Conference.

“We’re expecting about 200 delegates, including the ministers themselves and their senior staff, as well as people representing every facet of the industry in Canada,” said Chuck MacNeil, Nova Scotia minister of natural resources.

Theme of this year’s meeting is “the importance of the mineral industry to Canada.” Keynote talks will be delivered by representatives of labor, industry and government.

Workshops to be held on Monday afternoon will include discussions on human resources, financial concerns, specific challenges and the public perception of the mining industry. Global concerns, including competition and environmental regulations, will also be addressed.

The conference will be co-chaired by MacNeil and federal Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Jake Epp.
