Placer increases Omai gold reserves

Included in the reserves are 10 million tonnes of soft rock material grading 1.43 g (0.041 oz). Soft rock is characterized as alluvial and saprolitic material which overlies hardrock ore, Golden Star says.

As a result, processing of soft ores can be carried out at a much greater rate and at lower cost. Placer is also examining the possibility of building a facility capable of processing five million tonnes per year as opposed to the 3-million-tonne- per-year rate contemplated initially.

A feasibility study and economic evaluation modelled on the larger mining rate is expected to be completed by the end of October.
