Letters to the Editor CANMET, NSERC studies at UBC

We would like to express our thanks for the timely article under “Environmental Politics” on the editorial page of the Sept 12 issue, referring to CANMET’s activities in this important area.

Although we much appreciate the publicity, it should be pointed out that the studies referred to, while receiving both technical and financial support from Inco, CANMET and NSERC, are in fact being carried out at UBC and not at CANMET as the article infers. We are however, working very closely with industry and universities in the area of smelter modernization and S02 control and expect that further cooperative projects of this nature will be initiated in which some of the work will indeed be carried out at CANMET.
