NO HEADLINE (November 28, 1988)

TEXT:

A joint training agreement was recently signed between Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) and Hudson Bay Mining Smelting to train 16 northern Saskatchewan residents for employment as underground miners.

The training includes six weeks of classroom training in life skills and basic mining, followed by four months of on-the-job training.

The United Steelworkers of America have given their support to this training initiative. Administration of the course is through Northlands Career College — Creighton, Sask. The Native Outreach Centre of La Ronge assisted in the promotion of the program and the selection of students.
