Using two rigs, Winspear Resources (VSE) has begun a 10,000-ft. drill program on the Camsell Lake diamond joint venture in the Northwest Territories.
Winspear is the operator and holds a 32% interest in the project, while partners Aber Resources (TSE) and Antler Resources (VSE) hold 43% and 25%, respectively.
Till sampling has identified at least two indicator mineral trains in an area designated as Snap Lake. A fluctuation in the trains’ width has led Winspear to believe multiple sources are involved.
The company’s consultant, Nikolai Pokhilenko, chief exploration geologist of the Russian Diamond Company, has determined that the indicator minerals originate from pipes in the diamond stability field.
Pokhilenko was instrumental in the discovery of the CL-25 pipe, one of two diamond-bearing kimberlite pipes identified at the Camsell Lake project, which lies 220 km northeast of Yellowknife.
An airborne geophysical survey and follow-up ground geophysics over Snap Lake delineated 17 potential targets, including four high-priority targets known as Snap North, Snap South, C-173 and C-175.
A spring drilling program, budgeted at $930,000, will test these targets, and, if results warrant, an additional $1.1 million will be spent.
Meanwhile, Winspear and Australian-based CRA have terminated discussions concerning the former’s diamond properties in the Territories.
