Engineering-construction firm Bechtel reports that associations it has made in Mexico, Venezuela, Chile and Brazil have begun to bear fruit.
Bill Friend, in charge of the company’s Latin America effort, projects an overall engineering-construction market of at least US$15 billion annually for the area.
The company’s bookings in Latin America in 1992 totaled US$670 million, up from US$50 million two years previously.
In Chile, Bechtel has been involved in the construction of a copper concentrating plant at La Candelaria, in the Cerro Colorado leaching and solvent extraction-electrowinning facility, the Andacollo gold project and in feasibility studies for three other copper mining projects.
