Yamana Resources (YRI-T) has added some U.S. prospects to its exploration portfolio, which previously consisted only of projects in South American and Indonesia.
The three gold and copper properties, which comprise 958 ha in total, are conveniently situated in Washington state, where the junior company has its head office. Historic mining and prospecting have taken place on all three.
* At the 508-ha Shuer Bet property, geophysical surveys have defined drill targets over a magnetic anomaly measuring more than 600 metres long and 120 metres wide. Yamana plans to carry out surface work and drilling.
* The Blue Lake property, a Nevada-style epithermal gold prospect comprising 196 ha, hosts mineralization controlled by a fault zone of shattered limestones and quartzites. The deposit has a strike length of more than 900 metres, and chip sampling has returned anomalous gold values ranging from 50 to 1,900 parts per billion.
* The third property is the 254-ha Palmer Mountain prospect, where underground mining during the First World War produced 3,500 tons averaging 0.03 oz. gold per ton and 3.1% copper.
Meanwhile, farther afield, in northern Chile, Yamana has acquired a 126-sq.-km porphyry copper prospect known as Viento.
Geophysical work has detected two anomalies, one of which measuring 3 by 10 km; the other, 1 by 3 km.
In other news, Yamana has expanded its presence in Papua New Guinea by acquring interests in various properties operated by Australian-based Union Mining.
