The environmental assessment panel reviewing Inco’s proposed Voisey’s Bay nickel-copper-cobalt mine and mill in Labrador has begun receiving additional data from the Sudbury, Ont.-based nickel giant.
The panel has until July 16 to review the company’s environmental impact statement (EIS). In the meantime, government agencies, technical specialists and the general public are being asked to read the documents and comment on whether Inco has satisfied the panel’s request to provide sufficient information to support meaningful discussion of issues related to the project at public hearings. Written or oral comments must be received before July 17.
The panel will announce by July 31 whether it has deemed Inco’s EIS information to be sufficient for the holding of public hearings.
For further information and for submission of comments, contact Brian Torrie, panel manager, Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, 200 Sacre-Coeur Blvd., Hull, Que. K1A 0H3. Phone: (819) 997-6364 or (819) 953-6727. Fax: (819) 994-1469. E-mail: brian.torrie@ceaa.gc.ca.
