During a quiet week on the unlisted network, White Star Copper Mines and Chance Mining and Exploration, which both hold ground in the vicinity of the Kidd Creek mine near Timmins, Ont., were among the most active traders.
White Star, trading up to 75 cents, finally closed unchanged at 45 cents for the week ended Dec. 3. In November, the company announced it was negotiating with a major mining company (presumably Falconbridge) to explore its claims on the west side of the Kidd Creek mine property. Chance, which holds royalties on a neighboring property with established reserves, lost 3 cents to close at 25 cents.
Also active was Canmine Resources, which closed at 14 cents for a gain of 6 cents. President Ted Ellwood said he thinks the trading is probably related to an article published recently in the Winnipeg Free Press, which outlined the potential of Canmine’s Fer copper-zinc property northeast of Flin Flon, Man.
Gaining 7 cents to 80 cents Craibbe-Fletcher Gold Mines is set to resume underground exploration on its property next to Placer Dome’s Campbell gold mine near Red Lake, Ont. The program, which will be carried out from workings established at the 2,000-ft. level, calls for a total of 20 holes.
