Colorado- based USMX (NASDAQ) announced its second discovery of the year after completing a 32-hole drilling program at its East Top property in White Pine Cty., Nev. The drilling intersected a number of high-grade gold values over significant widths. The mineralization is described as a complex system of low-angle disseminated gold mineralization and steeply dipping, high-grade feeder structures.
The extent of the mineralization has not yet been determined, although potentially ore-grade intersections were encountered over an 800-ft. diameter area which is open in two directions and to depth.
The area of the discovery lies about 1,000 ft. east of the previously mined Top pit on Placer Dome’s Bald Mountain open pit gold mine.
USMX owns about a quarter of the pit area and will investigate the possibility of a connection between the known mineralization remaining in the Top deposit and the new discovery. The company plans to begin an extensive drilling program in the spring to further delineate the mineralization.
The East Top property lies at the north end of the Alligator Ridge trend about two miles southwest of the company’s Casino mine and about 18 miles north of the North Yankee discovery announced in early January (T.N.M., Jan. 21/91).
Some of the better results from the program are as follows: 0301,0009,0203,0008,0108,0009,0204, Interval Width Grade Hole (ft.) (ft.)
