An option has been acquired by Tusk Minerals (ASE) to earn a 50% interest in the former producing Anglo-Rouyn mine, located 35 km northeast of La Ronge, Sask. From 1966-1972 the mine produced 72,000 oz of gold, 471,000 oz of silver and 96 million lb of copper.
Sampling of a zone striking for 2.8 km along strike of the old mine workings has returned encouraging gold values up to 1.94 oz per ton in grab samples. Copper assays averaged more than 2%, Tusk says. The property also protects a 2- million-ton tailings dump. A representative average gold assay of the dump material remains to be determined. However, six surface samples averaged 0.01 oz.
The agreement also includes an option on the Gem property which is adjacent to the Anglo-Rouyn mine claims. A geophysical survey has outlined several targets associated with surface gold showings.
Tusk can earn its interest by spending $250,000 on exploration and making property payments to the vendors totalling $112,500 by the fall of 1989.
