TSX Venture Exchange – SEPT. 29 -OCT. 5

For the latter half of September, the S&P/TSX Venture composite index held steady just below 1,300 points. And so far, it’s been much of the same for the beginning of October. During the Sept. 29-Oct. 5 trading period, the Venture lost a modest 15.48 points to close at 1,254.25 on strong trading volume. Average daily trading volume over the period was 105 million shares. Indeed, the Venture has seen trading volumes around the 100-million mark ever since the end of August. The latest bout of high volumes is the longest and strongest since May.

Companies continued to bite at 52-week highs. While only 17 companies reached 52-week lows, 102 raised the roof.

Maudore Minerals gained 65¢ to close at $3.10. Investors are still impressed with Maudore’s stellar gold-mineralized intercepts from the Comtois property in Val d’Or, Que. Seven intervals were over 21 grams gold per tonne and one hit as much as 183.5 grams gold over 1 metre starting at 337 metres depth. The intercepts come from what Maudore is calling the Osbell Midway zone, and extend mineralization 75 metres. So far, Maudore has outlined semi-continuous mineralization over a 2-km strike length, consolidating what were two separate zones, Osbourne and Bell, into one — Osbell.

Likewise, Quest Uranium built on previous gains, adding 52¢ to its share price, which closed out the week at $3.43. The interest largely comes from compelling drill results from its Strange Lake property in Quebec. At the B zone, Quest hit as much as 12 metres grading 2.18% total rare earth elements.

Also dealing with rare earths, the topically named Rare Element Resources was up 43¢ to $4.23. Rare Element has outlined a substantial rare earths resource at its 100%-owned Bear Lodge property in Wyoming. During the reporting period it announced positive metallurgical results that showed strong recoveries at the 90% mark. The metallurgical test will help Rare Element optimize the design of a potential processing circuit. The company has outlined an inferred resource of 4.5 million tonnes grading 4.3% rare element oxides near to surface.

For Mosquito Consolidated Gold Mines, news of a board appointment appeared to give it a boost, up 35¢ to $1.40. The company announced Hongxue Fu, a mining industry executive with strong ties to China, joined the board of directors as chairman.

International Tower Hill Mines’ share price grew along with the expanding size of its Livengood gold deposit. Tower Hill increased the extent of the sunshine zone with a batch of 21 drill holes. Intervals included one that hit as much as 58 metres grading 1.3 grams gold. Tower Hill will include the drill results in a resource update expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2009. So far, Tower Hill has pegged indicated resources at Livengood at 146 million tonnes grading 0.86 gram gold.
