TSX Venture Exchange – April 7-13

Over a four-day trading week shortened by the Easter holiday, the S&P/TSX Venture composite index gained 17.69 points to close the April 7-13 reporting period at 980.86. Daily trading volumes were very consistent, averaging 55 million.

Despite the board’s modest rally, eight Venture-listed companies reached new 52-week share price highs over the week, while 53 juniors fell to new lows.

Romarco Minerals’ share price continued its sustained climb by adding another 12¢ to reach 65¢, more than double its average for the last few years. In February, Romarco released a positive feasibility study for its Haile gold project in South Carolina; it has since closed a $27.4-million financing and more than doubled Haile’s gold count with a 3.3-million oz. resource.

The biggest absolute gain over the reporting period went to Exeter Resource, which gained 37¢ to finish at $3.57. The company did not release any news during the week but since late February, Exeter has raised $29 million and announced an initial inferred resource for its Caspiche gold project in Chile, totalling 8.7 million oz.

The decision to drive a new adit to access a gold vein lifted Bralorne Gold Mines’ share price 24¢ to 99¢. The company is exploring the historic Bralorne mine, which produced more than 4 million oz. gold from three underground mines, in southwestern British Columbia. An earlier, deeper adit drifted into the BK vein encountered significant gold mineralization over short widths.

Coal intercepts in 44 of 97 holes was not enough for Goldsource Mines investors, who drove the company’s share price down 93¢ to $1.47. Data from the winter program is painting a more complicated picture of the coal deposit at Border, in Saskatchewan; the property appears to host several coal sub-seams where widths pinch and swell, instead of simply containing a massive coal seam as investors initially hoped.

More solid drill results from Livengood lifted International Tower Hill Mines’ share price 20¢ over the week to $2.90. The latest assays included ones from holes punched into the previously unexplored southwest extension of the deposit; the best of those stepouts returned 69 metres of 1.1 grams gold.

Good news from two gold projects helped Temex Resources gain 14¢ to 26¢ on 4.3 million shares traded. The junior drilled 21 grams gold over 6.6 metres at its Whitney Twp. property near Timmins and discovered a new 1.4-km-long gold target at its Latchford gold project in northeastern Ontario.

And Potash North Resource shares also showed good volume on news that Potash One shareholders approved the companies’ merger plans. The deal exchanges each Potash One share for 0.3125 of a Potash North share and will create a strong potash junior. The new company has the funds to push Potash One’s Legacy project, a development property in southern Saskatchewan that is amenable to lower-cost solution mining, through feasibility studies.
