Lesley heads to the Geological Survey of Canada’s (GSC) offices in downtown Vancouver to celebrate Canada’s oldest scientific agency during its 175th anniversary. The GSC is part of the Earth Sciences Sector of Natural Resources Canada, and was founded in 1842 to help develop Canadian resources by establishing “the general geological base on which the industry could plan detailed investigations.”
We have a chat with Vancouver Subdivision Head, Steve Irwin, about the agency’s legacy and recent advancement in geoscience and mapping.
Throughout its long and colourful history, the GSC has played a leading role in exploring the nation. Steve discusses Sir William Logan and prospecting by horseback.
