TNM Drill Down: Pecoy leads recent copper assays

Peru, Canada and Colombia yielded the best copper drill results from Aug. 17 to Sept. 15, according to data compiled by The Northern Miner. Intervals from Pecoy Copper (TSXV: PCU), Vizsla Copper (TSXV: VCU) and Copper Giant Resources (TSXV: CGNT) led the rankings.

Drill holes are ranked by grade times width.

Pecoy

Drill hole PEC26-072 at Pecoy Copper’s South Breccia target in southern Peru cut 804 metres grading 0.34% copper and 0.08 gram gold per tonne from 24 metres depth, including 485.2 metres of 0.4% copper and 0.09 gram gold, Pecoy said on Sept. 1. That represents a width x grade value of 273, the highest among global miners for the period.

The hole is the third broad copper-gold intercept at South Breccia, where drilling from three separate locations has demonstrated the potential to expand mineralization westward. The latest results came from six holes totalling 5,678 metres, part of Pecoy’s planned 35,000-metre drill program this year.

Results from the Northwest target also showed near-surface mineralization. Hole PEC26-067 intersected 209 metres grading 0.4% copper from 15 metres depth, including 42.3 metres of 1.01% copper and 11.1 metres of 1.9% copper. A separate interval deeper in the hole returned 296 metres of 0.24% copper and 0.009% molybdenum from 744 metres depth.

The Northwest results give Pecoy a second priority exploration target alongside South Breccia, CEO Vincent Metcalfe said. The company is testing several areas around the project’s historical pit and evaluating the potential to expand the known mineralized footprint.

Woodjam

Drill hole DH26-136 at Vizsla Copper’s Deerhorn deposit in central British Columbia cut 266 metres grading 0.97% copper, 0.06 gram gold and 4.29 grams silver from 306 metres depth, including 107.7 metres of 2.01% copper and 48.5 metres of 3.32% copper, Vizsla reported on Aug. 26. That represents a width x grade value of 258.

Vizsla described the intersection as the longest high-grade copper interval recorded at the Woodjam project, based on its review of historical and recent drilling. The hole also returned a separate near-surface interval of 129.9 metres grading 0.3% copper and 0.21 gram gold from 70.1 metres depth.

The high-grade intersection extended about 100 metres below the area covered by Deerhorn’s historical resource estimate, identifying mineralization that remains open in several directions. Deerhorn hosts a historical inferred estimate of 32.8 million tonnes grading 0.22% copper and 0.49 gram gold per tonne, although Vizsla doesn’t classify it as a current resource.

The results were part of an 11-hole, 6,055-metre summer drilling program at Woodjam. Vizsla plans to re-examine historical drill cores and develop a three-dimensional geological model to guide further drilling around the high-grade zone.

The company is also drilling at its Poplar and Palmer copper projects in British Columbia and Alaska, respectively. Two rigs were operating at each property when the Deerhorn results were announced.

Mocoa

Drill hole MD-070 at Copper Giant Resources’ Mocoa project in southern Colombia cut 770.9 metres grading 0.33% copper and 0.039% molybdenum from 211.4 metres depth, including 313.2 metres of 0.46% copper and 0.047% molybdenum, Copper Giant said in its August drilling update. That represents a width x grade value of 254.

The hole was drilled within the existing resource footprint to test the continuity and grade of mineralization at closer spacing, as Copper Giant works to improve confidence in its resource model ahead of a preliminary economic assessment (PEA). The results included a higher-grade interval of 102.4 metres grading 0.54% copper and 0.063% molybdenum from 396.2 metres depth.

MD-070 was drilled as a directional daughter hole from MD-064, allowing Copper Giant to investigate multiple directions from a single drill platform without building additional access roads. The company said the results were consistent with, and locally exceeded, the grades predicted by its existing resource model.

Mocoa hosts 1.12 billion inferred tonnes grading 0.31% copper and 0.039% molybdenum, containing 7.6 billion lb. copper and 1 billion lb. molybdenum, according to a November 2025 resource update. That represents 95% and 65% increases, respectively, in contained metal over the previous estimate from 2022.

Located in Colombia’s Putumayo department, Mocoa is the focus of a planned 23,000-metre drilling program for 2026, Copper Giant’s largest to date. The company is also advancing metallurgical and environmental work alongside an initial PEA targeted for the fourth quarter of this year.
