THE GLOBAL SEARCH FOR GOLD SPECIAL — Results add sparkle to El Escobar

The Escobar gold project of Santa Cruz Gold (SCG-T), site of an underground mine that closed in the 1960s, is once again displaying potential for gold production.

Santa Cruz is seeking to develop an epithermal, bulk-tonnage deposit amenable to open-pit extraction. The current, 28-hole drill program at the site, situated in Mexico’s Sinaloa state, is testing the deposit on a 25-metre spacing on 50-metre fences.

Recent results include the following: 9 metres grading 1.4 grams gold per tonne in hole 11; 14 metres of 1.5 grams in hole 12; 43 metres of 2.9 grams in hole 13; 24 metres of 1.9 grams in hole 14; and 27 metres of 1.3 grams gold in hole 15. All intervals were between 16 and 103 metres below the surface.

El Escobar last produced gold in the mid-1960s, when it had been developed on five levels to a depth of 150 metres. Drilling and trenching by Santa Cruz have tested only 200 metres of more than 1 km of favorable strike.
