Directly across the border from the Premier Gold project north of Stewart, Star One Resources (VSE) is under way with Phase I of a 2-stage exploration program on its 144-claim Mineral Hill property in the Alaska Panhandle.
The 3,000-acre property is located immediately adjacent to the gold- silver project being readied for production under a joint venture involving Westmin Resources, Pioneer Metals Corp. and Canacord Resources. The Big Missouri and Premier mines are expected to begin production in the first quarter of 1989 at a combined rate of 2,000 tonnes per day.
Star One conducted a geological program on the Mineral Hill property during 1987 and its consulting geologists’ report states that there are at least 17 mineral occurrences on the property, some with trenches and adits.
The company says the eastern third of its property is underlain by the host unit for the Premier and Big Missouri mines and is transversed by two major faults, while the western portion of the property shows similarities to the andesite tuff units that host the Scottie Gold deposit.
The first phase program will include geochemical and geophysical surveying to investigate and develop known mineral occurrences on the property, while the second phase program, valued at $800,000, will include trenching, diamond drilling and access road building.
Star One will be the operator with a 52.6% interest while joint-venture partner Mineral Basin Mining Corp. holds the remaining 47.4% interest.
