Saskatchewan offers mine skills training

Residents of northern Saskatchewan will be eligible for mining skills training following agreements between the Saskatchewan government and three mining companies. Under the agreements with Claude Resources, Amok Ltd. and Midwest Joint Venture, Saskatchewan Education will provide programs designed to train northerners for work at the Cluff Lake and Seabee projects.

“Approximately 170 northerners will receive training as mill operators, laboratory technicians, assayers, underground mine surveyors, underground samplers, apprentices in industrial and heavy duty mechanics, and electrical trades,” said Education Minister Ray Meiklejohn.

The program will bring the total number of trained northerners to more than 1,000 within the next year.
