Quintette appeals

Following a ruling by the British Columbia Court of Appeal upholding the reduction in contract price for its coal, Quintette Coal has gone to the Supreme Court of Canada in an attempt to overturn the original arbitration ruling. Earlier this year an arbitrator significantly reduced the contract price of the company’s coal production. Bruce McConkey, chairman of Quintette, stated that the arbitration price was well below the cost of producing and transporting the coal.

The company is proceeding with a reorganization of operations aimed at bringing costs down.
