The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (pdac) is gearing up for its 56th annual convention March 6-9 at Toronto’s Royal York Hotel. Theme of this year’s meeting is Financing — The Key to New Mines.
Following the annual business meeting, the preliminary program calls for delegates to spend the morning of March 7 listening to four talks related to the convention’s theme, including “Flow-through shares at work” and “Future of flow- through.” The afternoon session will deal with “Evaluations and ore reserves.”
On March 8, the first session of the morning will be given over to “Quebec’s new mining act,” with the second session dealing with underground exploration and other related topics. During the afternoon, a number of papers will be reviewed, to be followed by a session featuring talks on heap leaching projects near Corner Brook, Nfld., Timmins, Ont., and Reno, Nev.
The morning of March 9 will first feature a seminar on “Financing and agreements,” with a number of exploration-oriented papers to be presented during the latter part of the morning. The afternoon session will be given over to “New discoveries.”
Guest speaker at the Monday luncheon will be William Mulholland, chairman of the Bank of Montreal, and at the Wednesday luncheon, Robert Needham, executive chairman of Giant Resources of Australia, parent firm of Pamour Inc. of Toronto.
An invitation has been extended to Ontario’s mine minister, Sean Conway, to attend the Monday night banquet at which the pdac presents its annual awards.
