Panel mine wins McCrea trophy

Rio Algom’s Panel Mine defeated 19 teams to win this year’s McCrea first aid competition, organized by the Mines Accident Prevention Association of Ontario (MAPAO). Trailing behind was the Stanleigh mine, Panel’s sister mine at Elliot Lake. Algom. Hemlo’s Golden Giant mine and Placer Dome’s Campbell Red Lake mine won 3rd and 4th positions.

Each team, consisting of four people, was placed in a simulated emergency situation. Their actions in response were judged by two referees from MAPAO.

The McCrea trophy was donated in 1929 by the Honorable Charles McCrea, then Ontario’s Minister of Mines.
