Olympic Dam mine opened `Down Under’

Australia’s largest mining project, the Olympic Dam copper- uranium-gold mine at Roxby Downs, was recently officially opened.

Bringing the mine, located in south Australia, into production are Western Mining and BP Australia. The annual production rate will be 45,000 tonnes copper cathode, 1,500 tonnes uranium oxide, 27,000 oz gold and 555,000 oz silver.

The mine’s estimated uranium production is equal to 40% of Australia’s annual uranium output.
