OBITUARY — Robert Kupsch

Robert Kupsch, who retired in 1993 as Asarco’s vice-president of mining, died earlier this year. He was 71.

Kupsch spent his entire career with Asarco. He joined the company’s New Mexico unit upon graduating from college and quickly moved on to positions of increased responsibility. In 1972 he managed four newly acquired zinc mines in Tennessee and later became manager of the eastern mining department in Knoxville. He was appointed general manager of that department in 1976, and held that post until his election as vice-president of Asarco in 1981.

A native of West Bend, Wis., Kupsch received a bachelor of science degree in mining engineering from the University of Missouri in 1951. He was a member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers.

Kupsch is survived by his wife, Hazel, two daughters, a son and several grandchildren.
