OBITUARY — Richard Murphy

Well known mining engineer Richard (Dick) Murphy, long associated with the Newmont mining organization, has died at the age of 86 following a lengthy illness.

A 1927 graduate of Harvard University and former officer in the Engineering Corps. in the Second World War, he was an active member in the Toronto Engineers Club, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.

Prior to joining the Newmont group he was associated with the Eldorado uranium mine development at Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories.
