OBITUARY — George Ellsworth

Noted geologist George Ellsworth died recently while visiting his son in Australia. He was 53.

A graduate from Princeton University, Ellsworth had worked for Noranda Inc.’s sales division before he served as a co-ordinator of the co-op program at the University of Waterloo. For the past 14 years, he was responsible for the placement of about 75 undergraduate geology and geological engineering students each term.

“George went the extra mile to attract our youth into Canada’s resource industries,” a colleague says.

Ellsworth left behind a personal library of materials on Canada’s mines and geology.
